Rigging

Standing rigging from White Marine Services.

We are stockists of Sta-Lok Terminals Ltd. world renowned manufacturers of rigging components.

The term ”standing rigging” describes the type of rigging used in the marine industry for providing the support that allows a mast to “stand” in a yacht.
Almost exclusively stainless steel wire rope is used for this purpose on modern sailing boats, although galvanised wire is still used on traditional yachts such as square riggers and high-tech fibres are used on some race boats.

White Marine Services offer purely stainless steel firm strand wire rope for standing rigging.

The firm strand rope is constructed from 19 individual circular strands. These are configured with 7 strands as a central core and 12 strands spread around the core. This is referred to within the industry as “1x19 wire rope”.

For some specialist applications we also offer dyform wire. This is also 1x19 construction wire but has lozenge-shaped individual wires spread around the central core, thus filling the voids better and is therefore stronger than conventional 1x19 and offers lower stretch characteristics. Dyform is more expensive than conventional 1x 19.

In the manufacture of standing rigging for a sailing yacht it is common for the terminals to be mechanically swaged onto the ends of the wire. At White Marine Services we have in-house swageing for rigging for most yachts up to about 40 feet in length and we have access to a machine capable of swaging for larger craft.

As well as mechanically swaged end terminations we also offer the swageless self-fit terminals from Sta-Lok Terminals Ltd. These terminations are Lloyds approved, are world renowned and are particularly useful for on-site rigging and repairs to individual shrouds.

There are many types of end terminations used on the standing rigging of modern sailing yachts and because of the complexity we recommend that contact be made by telephone (or email to us here at White Marine Services) to discuss requirements. David and Peter White both have 30 years of experience in the rigging business.

Prior to any such contact being made it is possible to obtain a budget price for individual shrouds by using request form.

Please do not hesitate to call or email us.
